I’m Tom. I build & invest in frontier tech.
I’ve loved learning how the world works and the thrill of building things for as long as I can remember. At ten, I wrote my first program on a BBC Micro computer I brought home from school. I spent my spare time as a kid building websites and computers, hacking servers, cracking software, reading about science, and taking apart everything in sight.
I studied Physics at Oxford to understand how the universe works. While there I continued rowing and learned to play poker, early lessons in teamwork, dedication and risk management which I carried forward. I got hooked on computational simulation and ML in my master's thesis on agent-based modelling of complex systems—while also studying BioPhysics, systems biology, and quantitative finance.
Next, I spent almost a decade working at Hedge Funds, learning from brilliant people how to manage capital, model complex systems, lead high-performance teams, and solve hard problems under extreme pressure.
Eventually, I left finance to build something at the frontier of tech that solves real problems. Starting companies was brutal but deeply rewarding—validating big ideas, launching product to millions, and building communities and teams united by a mission. It's the most fulfilling work I've ever done.
Now, I'm trying to work on tech that improves our lives and dramatically extends them. I spend my time mentoring and investing in ambitious founders while exploring cutting-edge advancements primarily in AI and CompBio. I also love skiing, climbing, surfing, and kitesurfing.
